Therapies services

Our occupational health therapies include fast access to psychology, physiotherapy and occupational therapy services to assess and support staff members with concerns resulting from their work or impacting on their work. This involves an assessment of your current difficulties and goals and creating a plan to support you with these.

When you self-refer to the psychology, physiotherapy and occupational therapy services your referral is completely confidential, meaning that no details are communicated to your manager or other staff members.

Psychology
Occupational health psychology can support staff who are feeling overwhelmed, anxious, overstretched or struggling in their roles. They can also support you if you have experienced traumatic events at work or are struggling to attend work due to mental health difficulties.

Psychological support involves an assessment of your difficulties, advice and referral options within your trust or community, as well as relevant self-guided resources. At times we can provide short term ongoing therapy sessions.

Physiotherapy
The occupational health physiotherapists treat a wide variety of musculoskeletal disorders including muscle, nerve, joint and ligament complaints resulting from or impacting on your work.

At the initial assessment the physiotherapist will discuss your condition with you and carefully examine the area and nature of your problem. If appropriate, a treatment programme tailored to your needs will be formulated. Please bring any notes or results of any investigations that are relevant to your condition to your appointment. If at the end of your assessment further investigations are considered appropriate you will be referred to your GP or to another specialty.

Occupational therapy
The occupational therapy service aims to support staff to remain in work or return to work. It assists staff with long term health conditions, neurodiversity, and concerns such as stress and anxiety.

The occupational therapist may support you via a confidential self-referral or when you are referred by your manager. If you see the occupational therapist as part of a manager referral, they will share a report with your manager after obtaining your consent with advice, adjustments and recommendations to help you at work.

You can expect to see the occupational therapist for around one to six sessions depending on your needs to help your return to work or improve your health and wellbeing while at work.
