Meet our 2026 summer intern

It’s the first Wednesday of August — one of the busiest days in the NLPSS calendar when thousands of resident doctors move into new roles at NHS hospitals — and intern Tire Olorire has carved out 30 minutes to chat about how her first month has gone at NLPSS.

In fact, it is going so well that her two-month internship has been extended until November to support with the recruitment team with the September, October and November rotations.

Tire joined the NLPSS team for her summer internship as part of the 10,000 Black Interns programme, which NLPSS has been part of for the past three years.

A recent law graduate from Aston University, Tire decided to pivot into HR and project management after a 12-month placement at a law practice clarified in her mind that she was more suited to these professions — fields where the skills she had learnt during her course would be beneficial but where she felt she would have a better work-life balance.

“The 10,000 Black Interns programme was something that I knew about before applying, just by word of mouth through family and friends. I let them know that I was interested in HR and project management and they matched me with NLPSS.

“I’d never heard of NLPSS before, but I did my research before coming and I was interested in the recruitment, employee relations, project and payroll services it provides.”

Tire spent her first week with the systems and reporting team, expanding her Excel skills and gaining awareness of how the data we process is turned into actionable reports for our partners. “I was able to hone my skills,” explains Tire. “And learn things that I hadn’t learnt before that I’ll be able to take onto future roles.”

She also spent time with client services, who provide support to our partners, medical workforce and recruitment teams. This gave her a broad overview of how the shared service operates and how all the different components work together.

“A lot of teams work on the same thing, but on different ends. So being able to see how one team looks at things compared to another team, I think was quite interesting,” adds Tire.

“I’ve worked in professional environments before, but I feel like here is the one where I’ve been able to come out of my shell the most, because everyone’s just so friendly. And I feel like that is really important when coming to work, because you don’t want to feel isolated in any way. You want to be able to speak to people and enjoy your time at work.”
